Redneck “K&N” intake on a 98 Chevy pickup
While the K&N and similer intake kits are valid upgrades for alot of vehicles.. Not all of them need it, and some are downright retarded. I have seen many trucks like mine with the K&N or other cold air intakes that draw air in from the same hot location as stock with the lid off! ..why bother wasting money and swapping them out? Just remove the top lid off the stock airbox/intake and either replace the filter more often, or get a washable one. Dont tell me its unsafe.. The K&Ns are just as exposed as this one, only with better filters.
If you still run a paper filter..or even if you dont, I suggest putting the lid back on during rain, heavy dust or salt conditions(beach), or when offroad. If you dont its the same as running the K&N but its additional protection over a K&N.
By taking it off i noticed its louder(sounds better), and has a little bit more power between 800-2000 rpm.. used to lag a bit.
First rev with lid on, second with it off.. First 2 runs are with it on, second are off. Not floored on any of the runs, and i was carefull while filming and driving(notice the blinker staying on..no 3rd hand).
