HVAC Purifier Recommendation?

-

I have been doing research on finding a in-duct home air purifier for my 3200sf house.
I have two little kids and my major concerns is allergies, dust mites, odors, organic gases and other air pollutants. I have been talking to HVAC providers and they are suggesting different Systems.

1. American Standards AccuClean™ Whole-Home Air Filtration System
2. American-Lights High Output UV Air Cleaner AAW300HO/14
3. PureAir® Air Purification System
4. SafeGuard UV Cleanser

Different people are recommending different systems while they may have an interest on a certain products because of the products they carry.

Can someone tell me which product I should be looking? I’m looking to get some independent opinion.

Really appreciate your help.

I would recommend the following
UV light
4 or 5 inch media filter
Run your fan on your furnace all the time, replace the media filter every 3 months
Install a whole whole humidifier with power vent (more efficient)

Changing the filter every month is key. Your bacteria is formed on the coil. So thats where the UV light comes into play and should be replace yearly.

how do you clean out the air conditioning system on a 2001 Ford F-150.?

-

The a/c has a funky smell sometimes. I was told BG offers Frigid Clean kit that you hook up somewhere in the glove compartment with a special hose kit. I bought the kit today, but cannot see a place in the glove compartment to hook up the line. Any help would be great.

You are smelling mold in the AC housing. It is caused by a buildup of moisture. Frigi-Fresh is sprayed into the fresh air intake (behind the wiper, in front of the windshield) to help kill the bacteria and mold spores in the evaporator housing. It does help but won’t last forever. Start the car, put the blower motor on low to medium speed. Follow the directions on the can and spray all of it into the system. Shut off the blower motor while spraying so the spray sits in the system and let it sit overnight.

What is a good brand of air purifier?

-

I’ve had ozone generator air purifiers in the past. I hated them. I do not want an ozone producing air purifier, but more of an air filter. However, filters that have to be replaced are a pain. Does anyone make an air filter with a washable filtration system?

I’m open to suggestions, if you have a brand that you’re happy with, let me know!

Landlord/roommate smoking inside house.?

-

My current living situation is renting part of a house and the landlord is my roommate. She owns the house. At the time I signed the lease I did not know she was a smoker, so therefore I did not know that she smoked inside the house. I found out after I move in. I have pretty severe asthma, so secondhand smoke and I do not get along very well. I have literally had to double the amount of money I pay every month on prescriptions to even make the asthma manageable. I can’t sleep at night because I am constantly waking up in a coughing fit. Now she moved her boyfriend into the house and he smokes as well…it’s gotten 10 times worse since there’s been a second smoker in the house. When I confronted them about it he said "Well, we’re smokers. We’re not going to quit, and we’re not going to go outside every time we want to smoke. Maybe we can get you an air purifier. If it comes down to you having to move out, you have to pay us extra money."

This is a quality of life and a health issue for me. My question is, can I legally get out of my lease because of this medical problem? I’ve confronted it , and they refuse to accommodate me. To me, it seems the two of them are creating an unhealthy living environment and I should not be legally obligated to live like that.

I live in Iowa, and I have tried to research landlord/tenant laws, but have not had any luck. Anybody out there had a similar experience? Or legal-smart enough to get me pointed in the right direction?

If you are willing to play hardball, stop paying the rent. The Iowa eviction laws make eviction very difficult. They cannot legally just throw you and your belongings out. It takes a court order and Sheriff’s department to do it. And the grace period is 30 days beyond the last months rent. If you don’t pay for Sept, they cannot do anything legal, until Oct. It would be well into Nov, before they could get you out.

Most landlords would much prefer to tear up the lease, let you go, than go through the trouble and hassle of eviction. Not to mention rent money lost, Stop paying. Offer to leave voluntary, and to pay the back rent, if they dismiss the lease IN WRITING, or tell them to go through the eviction process.
